There was boxing in Thailand today. I didn’t go. Why you may ask? I still don’t feel well but the reason I didn’t go was because the fights were poor. I’ve got a doctor’ appointment tomorrow but I was well enough to have gone to the fight if I wanted.
In a Thai vs. Filipino bantamweight battle, Pichitchok Singmanassak (14-7, 6 KO’s) to pounded for seven rounds before finally succumbing to Jason Egera (10-2, 5 KO’s) for a WBO belt known as the Asia Pacific championship. There is now an Asia Pacific and Orient title. Imagine that. Anyhow, the only Singmanassak who I’ve ever seen that was a capable fighter was Sirimongkol Singwangcha and whether he wanted to distance himself from all the Singmanassak fighters who tend to be perennial losers or he just took the Singwangcha name since he’s his sponsor, Pichitchok clearly was not an elite fighter or a fighter deserving of a belt. Neither was Jason Egera, he just happened to be a little better than the Thai and therefore is now the “WBO Asia Pacific Bantamweight Champion!” Virtually every fight in Thailand, or Asia, or in the world, is for some sort of a title – the majority of which, the champions don’t deserve to be called as such.
Anyhow – tomorrow I get my visa and work permit renewed. I haven’t had much time to write lately; as I’ve said, I’ve been sick and whatever energy I’ve been able to muster has gone to taking care of my kids and getting a bare minimum of work accomplished. I should have more time later to catch up today, and I’ll finally figure out my schedule for the next few weeks. More than likely I’m headed to the Philippines but I’ll know more by the end of the day.
Also – there is an offer of $150,000 for Chris John to fight Chonlatarn Piriyapinyo in Thailand. I’m waiting for more information from the Thai’s promoter and will speak with John’s people later this month.
Gotta get some rest….until later….
