Well…Pavlik beat up on Lockett, Lopez did exactly what I thought, Forrest gave his title away, and Carlos Quintana got starched in one. I’m still waiting to see if Celestino Caballero beat Lorenzo Parra – I believe he has what it takes to beat the naturally smaller man.
Right now I’m listening to Through the Ropes, hosted by Marc Lichtenfeld. I used to write for The Sweet Science.com until the owner stopped paying. For whatever reason, he stopped paying everyone. Since most writers, including myself, are not fabulously wealthy, this was definitely not a good thing.
Anyhow, Lichtenfeld used to write for The Sweet Science and I like his show. It’s too bad about The Sweet Science – I was honored to be working for a site with great writers like Pat Putnam, George Kimball and Mike Katz – among others. It’s nowhere near what it used to be and I’m extremely hesitant to write for the majority of sites online. There are a few I’d like to write for but most either do not pay or do not care about the Asian boxing scene. Too bad – it’s the fans that lose.
More to come…

It’s Sunday here in Thailand. Generally, Sunday is a day of rest for me. I don’t like to do anything on Sundays – because I don’t like Mondays. It’s the Sabbath, right?
I’ll admit, sometimes I’m lazy and when I’m not working can lay around for days on end. If I’m feeling spry I may take a taxi to the mall and hang out at Starbucks or one of a few restaurants, or maybe, just maybe, I’ll hit the heavy bag and jump some rope. The older I get, the easier it gets for me to just hang out and enjoy myself which for me means relaxing. My wife usually takes the kids swimming on the weekends which gives me a bit of peace and quiet – something I always like.
It’s tough for me to work, or read, when my kids are home, and Sunday is one of my favorite days of the week. As my wife likes to point out, “You don’t have a real job, you work whenever you want – for you every day is Sunday!”
Anyhow, this morning in Thailand is Saturday evening in the U.S. which means it’s fight night! Pavlik – Lockett and Quintana – Williams. I suspect Pavlik is going to win in 5-6 rounds and Quintana is going to show Williams the first fight was no fluke. I’m looking forward to both fights. One good thing about living in Thailand is there’s generally no PPV. Well, until recently that is. I’ve got the platinum cable package and thus all PPV fights are free. In the past they were free to everyone but the cable company, True Visons, now charges 150 baht (about $5). Still not bad but free is better than paying $5.
Right now I’m getting ready to watch Vernon Forrest versus Sergio Mora. I’m never fond of a fighter who has very little power and thus I’m going with Forrest. After all, I’ve always believed without some knockout power, there’s no seat of the pants tension that comes with for instance, a Tyson or Cotto fight. This is a test for both fighters to see where they both stand. If Forrest uses his tools he should win a decision.
I’ll post again later tonight, after the fights, and hopefully I’ll figure out how to make a gallery on this Word Press blog. As soon as I get around to it I’ll do some other stuff to the site but for now, this is it.
